Tech Test

First tech test: If design of form and complex structures can be created within Crysis.

Looking at the outer shell of the Hydropolis , it seems to be a very complex piece of Architecture. I felt this shape would be best represented in Generative components. The problem with creating the outer shell in GC was importing into sandbox to play on Crysis. I found out that GC exports to DWG which 3D studio Max could read. I then exported from 3DS to sandbox. Finding a way to export from 3ds to sandbox was easy. I found a YouTube site that showed me how to do it step by step after installing a file called SDK mod.

Second tech test: Test the scale size of creating islands in Crysis and the structure.

This was a pretty simple test. I created a land mass and roughly compared it to the images we had of the Hydropolis. Using the Crysis character as a model I estimated the rough scale of the design, making sure it wasn’t too big or small.

Week 2 Studio

Today we decided which unbuilt Architecture we were going to use for our collaboration project. After looking at everybody’s designs and hearing their thoughts, we narrowed it down to Eva’s Dubai Opera House and Allen’s Dubai Hydropolis. We finally decided that the Dubai Hydropolis would be a good fit for our team design.

Evaluation of the unbuilt Architecture and eight areas of inquiry
  1. If design of form and complex structures can be created within crysis.
  2. Test if structures can be placed in the water and to also hold it out.
  3. If we can import models from 3dsmax into crysis and test if model collisions works within sandbox2.
  4. Test the scale size of creating islands in Crysis and the structure.
  5. Test what materials would look authentic within an underwater environment
  6. Test if sealife is creatable.
  7. To test if models can me imported from sketchup.
  8. The tech tasks were divided up into 2 per person with the following people doing these tasks.

Unbuilt Architecture

UNBUILT ONE

This design was created for the Captin Cook Memorial Competition. This one caught my attention right away. The supports looked like spaceship legs and I really like the winding trail as you could look into the sea. I figured since Crysis has a good water texture, it would look perfect in a Crysis enviroment.

UNBUILT TWO

This is a design for the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art Competition. I chose this unbuilt Architecture because of the unique shapes and unusual angle. I like how the design sits on a podium and the visitors are encouraged to walk up the steps and enjoy the views.
